MUSANFIGO
Prologue: The Seed of Craftsmanship
In the 1960s, in Dongsheng Town, Sichuan Province, Jiang Tianjin was the only watchmaker for miles around.
His repair stall sat under an old banyan tree. On a faded blue cloth, he displayed all kinds of old pocket watches, alarm clocks, and wristwatches. In an era of scarcity, watches were rare treasures, and watch repair was a mysterious craft.
Jiang Tianjin had no master — he was entirely self-taught. He took apart broken alarm clocks, reassembled them, and learned the personality of every gear. The townspeople said: "Master Jiang's hands are more precise than the watches themselves."
His greatest wish was to one day create an automatic mechanical watch that could rival Swiss craftsmanship — made in China, by Chinese hands.
But Dongsheng Town was too small to contain such a dream. Jiang Tianjin kept his wish hidden, only sketching dial after dial in a yellowed notebook. On one page, he drew a barrel-shaped case outline — bold lines, unlike anything from that era.
In 2013, Jiang Tianjin passed away. The notebook was locked inside an old wooden chest in the family home.
Chapter One: A Legacy Passed Down
Jiang Tianjin's son, Jiang Zhirong, is 65 years old in 2026.
He did not inherit his father's repair stall — repairing watches couldn't support a family. In the 1980s, young Jiang Zhirong left for Shenzhen and joined a watch parts factory, starting as an apprentice.
Unlike his father, Zhirong came of age during China's manufacturing boom. Over a decade, he worked his way up from technician to factory supervisor. He traveled to the Basel Watch Fair in Switzerland and the Hong Kong Watch Fair, bringing back world-class techniques.
He understood one thing deeply: China didn't lack manufacturing capability. It lacked a "design language" recognized by the world.
In the early 2000s, the mechanical movements developed under Zhirong's leadership began to be exported to Europe and North America. Those "Made in China" movements were placed inside the cases of foreign brands and sold for hundreds — sometimes thousands — of dollars.
As he watched those movements leave the factory, he always remembered his father's words: "When will we make watches under our own name?"
Chapter Two: The Arrival of the Muse — The Brand Is Born
In 2016, Jiang Zhirong's son, Jiang Hongping, turned 30.
That year, Hongping returned to Dongsheng Town to renovate the old family home. While clearing out his grandfather Jiang Tianjin's belongings, he discovered the wooden chest.
Inside were dozens of hand-drawn sketches — dials, movements, cases — each drawn with extraordinary care. On one page was a barrel-shaped case outline, with four characters written in pencil beside it: "Mu Shang Fei Ge" — the name that would one day become MUSANFIGO.
Hongping was deeply moved.
He later learned that his grandfather had once secretly disassembled an antique Movado watch — the legendary Swiss brand whose name means "Always in Motion." His grandfather had been captivated by the philosophy that "time is art" — but constrained by the times, he could only hide his inspiration in his sketches.
"Movado has 'Always in Motion.' Why can't we have 'Where Inspiration Meets Craftsmanship'?"
At that moment, Jiang Hongping made a decision: he quit his job in Shenzhen, opened his own watch factory in Shenzhen, Guangdong, and set out to create a Chinese brand of avant-garde mechanical watches.
He took the name from his grandfather's sketch — "Mu Shang Fei Ge" — and built the English name around it:
MUSA (Muse, the source of inspiration) + N (a bridge) + FIGO (fig, an ancient symbol of abundance and craftsmanship)
MUSANFIGO was born.
Chapter Three: The Aesthetic Revolution of the Barrel Shape
The first MUSANFIGO timepiece was a barrel-shaped skeleton automatic mechanical watch — a tribute to his grandfather's sketches.
Why the barrel shape?
Hongping explains: "The round case is compromise. The square case is stubbornness. The barrel shape is elegance without compromise."
This shape breaks free from the constraints of traditional watches. It has the structural feel of architecture and the comfort of a watch that conforms to the wrist. Paired with a skeleton dial, it reveals the beauty of mechanics without reservation — a visual expression of his grandfather's belief in the spirit of craftsmanship.
Every MUSANFIGO watch is powered by a fully automatic mechanical movement (no battery needed) and is 30m water resistant. They are designed and crafted in our factory in Shenzhen, Guangdong — because only China offers the perfect balance of top-tier craftsmanship and an accessible price of $99–199.
Chapter Four: From Dongsheng Town to the World
Today, MUSANFIGO is a registered trademark in China, the United States, and the European Union, with products sold across the US and Europe.
Jiang Zhirong (65 years old) oversees production and quality control — applying over thirty years of industry experience to ensure every watch meets the highest standards of precision and durability.
Jiang Hongping (40 years old) leads the brand and design — turning his grandfather's sketches into reality, bringing the name "MUSANFIGO" from a yellowed notebook to the world stage from his factory in Shenzhen.
Two generations, one dream.
"Back under the banyan tree in Dongsheng Town, my grandfather might have charged just a few cents to repair a watch. But what he left us wasn't money. It was a Chinese craftsman's understanding of time."
"We wouldn't dare say we've surpassed Swiss watches. But we will say this: At the $100 price point, MUSANFIGO is the watch with the most design integrity and mechanical honesty you will find."
